The Guardian of the Book of Omens
Recently in the shout box The Archivist brought up some good questions about the Guardian of the Book of Omens. I've always loved good, intelligent discussions so I thought I'd bring it here onto the forum. Anyways, here are some excerpts from the shout box and the topic. The Archivist: *pokes head in* question for everyone. . .Why did the Book of Omens need such a self-important twit of a Guardian? I ask solely out of pure curiosity and venomous dislike for its existence. Leilani: la la la hey guys Azmom: Hey Lei, how ya doing? As for your question Archivist, I wondered that myself as well. I wonder if the writer for that ep had been watching the Wizard of Oz the night before. I did notice many similarities. Anyone else? Queen Lynxana: there were too many similarites to the wizard of oz.....how corny can Tcats get...first they have the Obi wan similarity with Jaga and now that Guest: Frankly, I prefer the nice jaguar. At least he had common sense and courtesy. I feel, honestly, he had more to offer. So the question still stands: Guest: why did the Book need the Guardian? This is the Archivist; I'm just too lazy to sign my name today in shoutbox. Ok, so now that we know what is being discussed, let me address the last question. From what I understand from the series, the Book of Omens housed some of the greatest powers from the ancient Thundarians. I can only guess that the Guardian was created and housed in the book so that those who entered the book would not be able to use those powers for evil. If I remember correctly, even Lion-o, the lord of the Thundercats and King of Thundera, had to prove his worth and his heritage before the Guardian would even speak to him.

*shakes head* I have a problem with that particular assertion (and I know I'm the one who "started" the topic) that the Book's Guardian's job was to prevent those of evil intent from gaining the secrets of whatever magic was in "storage." Seemed to me that whoever held the Key and presented said Key, could in practice, use those powers. The fact that old Bandages failed and Lion-O completed the task is almost secondary. If those old magic-users wanted to prevent evil intentioned beings from using the Book's power, they could have provided the wretched Guardian with an ability to see and recognize intention like the Sword does. I even have a problem with the Guardian essentially questioning Lion-O's right to ask its help but I'll post those difficulties in another post to this forum since at the moment, I am not able to remember the scenes in the episode well enough for commentary.

Oh, I completely forgot about the Key!!! Looks like you're right Archivist, I guess anyone with the Key would be able to gain the power, whether the weilder was good or bad. Perhaps the Thundarian ancestors had always expected that only Thundarians would be able to have access to the Book. Probably none of them expected the planet to blow up. I may have to redownload all the eps again and find the ones with the Guardian to make a better observation. It's been a while since I watched them as well.
