Merry Christmas to You... part 2
Merry Christmas To You… Part 2 The Thundercats stood around the Council room, some patiently, some tapping their foot or making small sounds of discontent, and all unsure as to why they had been summoned. Each of them had received a summons either by note, computer communication, or verbally to show up and all had done as asked. Well, almost everyone. Missing from the group was Tara, Taz, Lion-o, and Az. It was common for Tara and Az to be late to a meeting, but not for Taz and most definitely not Lion-o, who took tardiness from anyone as an affront to him. After five minutes had passed, the gathered warriors became a bit concerned and Panthro was just about to call on Lion-o when Taz walked in, looking a bit confused and bewildered. “Hey Taz, what’s going on here?” Wily Kat asked the cheetah. “Uh, Tara will be here in a bit to explain everything.” He said tentively. “You don’t know what she’s planning?” asked Pumyra. “Well she told me, but I’m not sure I completely understand it all.” “Anyone know where Az and Lion-o are?” At that moment Tara came in with many books, papers, graphs, and pencils. Behind her trailed Snarf and Snarfer each holding boxes of oddly bright material and other strange items. “Lion-o took Az out on patrol at my request. I didn’t want Az around while we discussed our plans.” She answered breathlessly. Tygra looked confused. “Why wouldn’t you want her here?” The hybrid cocked her eyebrow at him mischievously, a hint of amusement in her eyes. “Because if she were here, it would ruin the surprise of course!” Leanna rolled her eyes and leaned in close to whisper into her mate’s ear. “Tara is planning a surprise for Az? I hope Az gets a heads start running.” Panthro snickered then sobered up quickly when Tara glanced his way. Link, close by, had heard what Leanna had said and tried to hide a smile but the hybrid had seen it. “Something funny, Link?” she asked sternly. “Not at all luv, but I am curious. Just what exactly do you have in mind for our lovely resident angel?” Out of the corner of his eye, Link saw Tygra grimace at the angel reference and sighed. The tiger really needed to get over Az’s little evil spell from a while ago. His thoughts were interrupted when Tara began to speak. “Let me ask you all something. Every year we have celebrations or parties to honor our Thundarian heritages, we even sometimes help the residents of Third Earth to celebrate their holidays, but have we ever celebrated any of Az’s traditional holidays?” The Thundarians in the room had to stop and think about this, but none of them could remember a time when Az had insisted on celebrating a special occasion from her old time era. Tara answered that question for them a bit haughtily. “We never have and I personally think that that is unacceptable!” “Now wait a blasted minute!” interrupted Panthro. “I’ve never heard her complain about celebrating our holidays. Hell, I know she loves the Eyom Festival!” This comment brought on a round of stifled laughter and giggles. It was widely known that the human woman enjoyed this particular celebration, not just for the physical aspect of it, but for the creative inspiration it gave her to write many steamy stories that all of the Thundercat women loved to read. Tara waited for the laughter to die down before she continued. “I’m not saying that she doesn’t enjoy our festivals, but think about this: if you were in a strange land for years with no way to get back to your own people and no one celebrated your holidays, would you complain about the parties you were allowed to go, knowing that being there made you feel secure and wanted? No, you wouldn’t, but you would still yearn for your own celebrations. That is what Az is going through right now.” “How do you know this?” asked Bengali. “Because yesterday Lion-o received a message on his computer that I think Az sent accidentally. In this message, she commented on how she missed something she called Christmas but how she would never demand that we celebrate it.” Blade smirked. “That sounds like Az alright. She never demands anything from us if she thinks it’s trivial.” “Exactly!” said Tara, feeling that she had everyone on track now. “So what we need to do is to create this holiday for her. We are going to make Christmas for her and on so grand a scale that she will never need to miss it again. So who’s with me?” Nervous looks passed between friends and family and some shuffling took place. Leanna felt that it would be up to her to state the obvious. “Tara, it’s not that we don’t want to do something special for Az, but what do we really know about this ‘Christmas’? What does it signify and why is it so special to her?” “Oh details, details!” The hybrid began to pace the room, upset that everyone wasn’t onboard with her immediately. “Look, it’s just another party, right? And I’ve got a list of the things she misses the most. I mean, how hard can it be?” Learning about Christmas was harder then Tara had thought! Although the Thundercats had reluctantly agreed to help her, they had declared that before they put up one festive decoration or cooked one single cookie, the hybrid find out exactly what Christmas was. Confident that she could get all the information she needed, Tara had agreed then set out to ask the residents of Third Earth about this Christmas. Unfortunately none of the Warrior women had ever heard of it, neither had the Berbils. She asked the Tuskans, the Wollos, the Molemen, the Balkans, even the Unicorn Keepers and the Under Earth people, but none of them knew about this most ancient of Earth holidays. Depressed and downtrodden, she returned to the Lair ready to admit defeat. As she walked in, she was met by Leanna, Panthro, and Taz. “How goes the search babe?” her lover asked her. “Not good. No one knows about this Christmas thing and I asked everyone!” “Did you ask Mumm-rana? I’m pretty sure she would know about it.” Taz commented. Tara squirmed a bit. “I, uh, can’t go ask her. She’s, um, not exactly, uh, talking to me.” “Oh?” asked Panthro. “Why is that?” “Because she took offense to something I said to her last month.” She answered, not exactly looking at the others, especially Leanna, who was grinning broadly. Taz looked at her suspiciously. “What did you say to her exactly?” “Nothing!” Tara said defensively. “I just made a comment about her clothing.” At this point Leanna was covering her mouth, trying to suppress the gales of mirth that threatened to burst out of her. Panthro looked at his mate with a raised eyebrow. “Ok Leanna, out with it! What did Tara say to tick off one of the most powerful beings on Third Earth?” “All I said,” Tara replied through clenched teeth, “Was that maybe it was time to update her wardrobe.” “Oh bull!” Leanna laughed. “What she said was that no one would be caught dead wearing that old tan outfit Mumm-rana likes to wear. Then she apologized, saying that as Mumm-rana was in fact the walking dead, that it was perfectly alright for her then.” Both Panthro and Taz stared at the hybrid in shock. “You didn’t!” Taz asked her disbelievingly, but Tara only stared at the floor. “Oh yeah, that’s one way to really piss off an ever living being of good!” Panthro crowed before giving in to fits of laughter. “Well the woman really needs to learn how to color coordinate and accessorize!” This even got Taz to start laughing. “Tara, I swear, you are one in a million babe. Only you would be so bold as to say something like that!” The hybrid glared at her friends before turning on her heel and started walking away from them. Still giggling, Taz reached out gently pulled the annoyed woman to him. “Aww come on babe, we’re just having some fun.” The twinkle in his eyes made Tara soften her anger and she snuggled up against his chest, allowing him to sooth her. After a while though she pulled back and looked at him sadly. “Seriously though, how are we going to learn about this damn holiday?” Leanna walked forward to offer an idea. “Well, you said that you learned about it from an entry Az accidentally sent Lion-o, right? So what if we were to learn about Christmas from Az herself?” “Uh, Lea, asking Az about Christmas will most definitely spoil the surprise.” “I don’t mean we walk up to her and ask her to tell us about it. In five years I’m sure she made mention about it in her diary. Maybe we can learn about it from her personal files.” Tara understood her instantly and grinned. “That is a great idea!” Panthro understood too and tried as quietly as he could to back away from the two conspiring women and get out of the area. Just as he turned, he heard the sweet voice of his woman calling out to him. “Panthro darling.” Leanna called out to him, “What do you know about hacking computers?”
